Welcome to the Lancaster-Lebanon Reading Council!
Our mission is to advocate literacy issues through enhancing communication and providing high-caliber professional development to literacy stakeholders in the schools within Pennsylvania’s Lancaster and Lebanon Counties.
This year we have several programs planned. In November, literacy educators are joining together to collaborate at the Reading Specialist Networking Meeting. Our book club will kick-off on 12/5 at the Cafe Chocolate of Lititz, followed by online discussions about Reading Nonfiction: Notice and Note Stances, Signposts, and Questions, and a February wrap-up. Join us at the Lancaster Barnes and Noble on December 13th to Wrap for Books. We’ll have appetizers with Debbie Diller February 11th, followed by the Regional Conference March 9th at the Clarion Hotel in New Cumberland, featuring Mark Weakland. We will celebrate literacy and give the Celebrate Literacy Award April 9th at the Double Tree in Willow Street. For more information on any of these events, please contact Sandy Haines, firstname.lastname@example.org. We hope you can join us!
As we have for many years, we are partnering with the Lancaster Newspapers to sponsor Newspapers in Education. The winning entries are published in a 40-page special section entitled “NIE Week” that is inserted in the Intelligencer Journal/Lancaster New Era on Wednesday, March 9, 2016.
As the school year rolls along, it’s great to pull in resources that other teachers and students recommend. Consider visiting these International Literacy Association or Keystone State Reading Association websites to enhance your teaching:
We hope you check back with us for updates. In the meantime, enjoy leafing through our pages, as you would a good book!
